Does a cast iron skillet always set the smoke alarm off when you cook with it?
It is the first time I cooked with it, it says to season it, and I did. Does this happen all the time? I wanted to cook french toast quietly and I woke the wife and toddler up. Oops. Idk, maybe I had the heat too hot, why would that matter? Help. Thanks.
Answer:
You had it too hot- cast iron is designed for cooking over a LOW temperature, I've yet to have it set of the smoke alarms and some dipwad put ours directly above the stove!
Next time, heat the pan over a low heat for about ten minutes before you add the oil, wait another minute and THEN add the food.
