Frequently Asked Questions...
Working as a cook in casual vs. fine dining?
I have altogether about three years worth of experience in the food industry, two and a half years of which have been in snack bar-type places (cooking burgers, wings, fries, etc. to order. Not quite fast food but not a restaurant either) and six months in a high volume, casual dining restaurant. I'm young and still trying to figure out what I want to do with my life, but after my experience in casual dining I'm finding I enjoy it immensely.
I was just wondering, what kind of pay can I expect? My place was pretty low but I also had no experience when I started and wondered how it varies with other places. Also, is there a pay difference if you work in fine dining? What sort of things do I need to have on my resume to even get into fine dining? What are the differences between working in casual dining and fine dining? And if you've worked both what did you prefer?
Thanks so much.
Answer:
i have worked in both casual and fine dining. they were both fun and i learned alot. lots of hard work but lots of fun too. i work in a nursing facility now and make great money with great benefits.
I've been cooking for 25 years now. i love it and have worked in boston and california. but my current job in nursing facility is very fun and rewarding. good luck in all your ventures. i'm here if you ever need help.
